Tips for Sponsoring

  • Agree on a regular time for you and your sponsee to talk.
  • Discuss assignments, reading, writing, and the nature of the disease.
  • Work the Steps.
  • Emphasize honesty.
  • Don’t preach. Share your experience, strength, and hope.

  • Sponsor up to the level of your experience, sharing as much recovery as you have.
  • It may be helpful to discuss sponsoring with your own sponsor first, then begin sponsoring when you both feel it is right.
  • We learn to sponsor by doing it.
